Some friendships come and go, but others stay with us for a lifetime. That’s how it was with Conceição and Tina, who first met as little girls back in 1951, when their mothers, both Portuguese immigrants, became friends at a neighborhood market in São Paulo, Brazil.
From that moment on, the two never parted ways. They played together in childhood, shared dreams as young women, and have walked through life side by side, never once having a quarrel.Along the way, their circle grew. Iara joined them through Tina, her colleague at the school where they worked, and then came Maria Ilda, who first met Conceição when she needed help with her retirement paperwork. What began as a favor soon turned into another beautiful friendship.
Today, the four of them are more like sisters than friends. They check in on each other every single day, organize outings, take short trips together, and at least once a month, sit around a table for a long lunch or an afternoon coffee filled with laughter.
They call themselves a “quartet,” but really, they’re a family, a living reminder that true bonds are not diminished by time, but only grow stronger with it.
Unfortunately, Iara couldn’t join us for filming, but nevertheless, her presence was felt in the loving way the three women talked about her off camera.
